Title: Three items by Minor relating to the American Communist Party Author: Minor, Robert Place: No place Publisher: Date: 1940s-50s Description: Includes: Typed manuscript of untitled speech, by Robert Minor, at a CP meeting in an unidentified southern state with respect to the Party’s position on the Negro question. Circa 1945-1946. 14 pp. with scattered corrections and insertions in Minor’s hand. * Typed Manuscript. Discussion on Negro Work Report. National Committee Meeting. February 14, 1946. 7 pp. * Retained copy of a typed letter from Minor to William Z. Foster regarding his book 'History of the Communist Party of the United States'. New York, November 13, 1952. 3 pp. Together 3 items. Robert Minor gave up a highly successful career as a newspaper cartoonist (hired by the New York World in 1911, he was at the time the highest paid cartoonist in the United States) to devote himself to the Communist movement with which he was associated from 1919 until his death in 1952. He served as editor of The Daily Worker (1928-30), Party Commissar in the International Brigades during the Spanish Civil War, member of the Central Committee and acting General Secretary (1940). For many years he was in charge of “Negro Work” for the Party. Lot Amendments Condition: Stains from paperclips, else fine. Item number: 192885
