Three costume sketches comprising watercolor and pencil on board of a yellow gown with small black dots with " SUZANNE / 1893-4 / party - w/out / hat " written in pencil in the upper right-hand corner; watercolor and pencil on board of a patterned blouse and skirt with " SUZANNE " written in pencil in the upper right-hand corner; and a watercolor and pencil on board of a tan-colored jacket and trousers with " SUZANNE " written in pencil in the upper right-hand corner. This third sketch also has a pencil-drawn sketch of a woman in a period gown on the reverse. Each sketch has a swatch of proposed fabric paper-clipped to the upper left-hand corner. After the success of Imitation of Life (1959), directed by Douglas Sirk, Lana Turner was slated to re-team with him and star with Louis Jourdan in Streets of Montartre, a period piece with Turner starring as "Suzanne Valadon," a French painter famous for her female nudes and the muse of such esteemed painters as Renoir and Degas. The project was heavily publicized but was ultimately canceled when director Sirk became ill and could not continue. Bill Thomas, one of Turner's favorite costume designers, established a complete wardrobe for the film; most (if not all) of the sketches are offered here. Each: 13 x 19.5 in.
