Painter. muralist, Illustrator and author, Sotomayor was a luminary of the San Francisco art scene, illustrator of Robert O’Brien’s 1948 book “This is San Francisco” and Herb Caen’s 1949 “Gourmet Guide” to the city. These three imprints are among his more scarce early works: The “Palace Hotel” booklet, with full-page drawings of Chinatown, Coit Tower, the Golden gate and Fisherman’s Wharf, represents his conventional style, while the Ferris and Bacon works display his early penchant for the avant-garde.
