Beschreibung:

Tietz M., “St Petersburg, Constantinople and Napoli di Romania in 1833 and 1834”. London 1836. First edition. In 8vo 21x13cm, contemporary red leather over boards, complete two volumes 302p., 273p, and two lithographs, text clean and bright, overall very good. Von Tietz was a Prussian diplomat active in a mission to the Levant, in Constantinople and Greece. First volume is dealing with the situation in Russia in early 1833 and his journey from Moscow to Wallachia, Moldavia and Bulgaria up to Constantinople, with lengthy descriptions of the Balkans. Second volume covers his residence in Constantinople in late 1833, his journey to Nafplio (still then the Greek capital) and his six months stay in Greece. He provided unique information for the early Greek State, including the effects of the arrival of the Bavarians, the trial of Kolokotronis, as well as descriptions of festivities in the beautiful Greek landscape during spring. Not in Atabey or Blackmer. Very rare.
