American (New York), ca 1875-1891. A sterling silver five-piece tea and coffee service by Tiffany & Co. in the Persian pattern, including a coffee pot, teapot, lidded sugar, creamer and waste bowl. Each piece marked, including with ca 1865 pattern no. 1982, and monogrammed; case ht. 10, wd. 20, dp. 15 in., coffee pot oah. 8.5 in., total silver wt. 76.77ozt (2387.5g). Housed in original wooden case with key, marked Tiffany & Co. on interior lock plate, and Tiffany & Co. / New York / Ave. (illegible) / Paris to interior lid. With brass name plate to exterior reading Lieut. C.H. Clark / U.S.A. Charles Hobart Clark (1851-1915) of Massachusetts graduated from West Point in 1875. After five years serving as Second Lieutenant of the First Regiment of Artillery, he completed U.S. Artillery School and became a lieutenant in the Ordnance Department, eventually rising to the rank of colonel. He retired in 1913 after a long military career. Condition: Coffee pot with several small dents to the neck and handle. Lidded bowl two several minor dents. Teapot with dent below the monogram and band, and to the left of the handle mount. Each piece with light surface wear and scratches, as expected from use.
