Very rare, early edition of Blunt's chart from St. Marks to Galveston. The first sheet covers the eastern portion, to New Orleans, with inset of Mobile Bay; the second sheet from Lake Ponchatrain and Timbalier Bay to Matagora Bay, with inset "Continuation of the coast on a reduced scale" to the mouth of the Rio Grande. Guthorn notes: "Parts of Florida, particularly the western area and the Gulf Coast of Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas were depicted in varying detail in another series of charts of varying title, extent, and detail. The North Coast of the Gulf of Mexico, From St. Marks to Galveston was published in editions of 1842, 1851, and 1857." (Guthorn, United States Coastal Charts 1783-1861, p. 10.) The present chart bears a copyright date of 1842, is dated 1844 in the title and indicates corrections through 1845. Quite scarce with no listings in the Antique Map Price Record (1983-2011). There are four examples of the chart in OCLC/WorldCat, but all dated or with additions as of 1851 or later. (Bibliotheque Nationale de France (1851), Dartmouth College (1859), British Library (1864), and University of Texas at Arlington, (1864).)
