Original green cloth, sides tooled in blind, spine lettered in gilt within a pictorial frame, yellow glazed endpapers (light rubbing). FIRST EDITION, IN THE PUBLISHER'S ORIGINAL CLOTH of an account of Tod's journey from Udaipur to Mumbai via Mt Abu, with an early, detailed description of the religious customs of the hill tribes of Southern Rajasthan. The plates mainly show views of the region's principal sacred buildings in their landscape. The village Todgarh was so named by the Maharana of Udaipur to commemorate Tod's work in the region.
