TOLSTOI, Lev Nikolaevich (Count, 1828-1910). Portrait photograph inscribed, showing the writer full-face seated (three-quarters), inscribed below on the mount in Russian) 'To Nina Aleksandrovna Fride Lev Tolstoi 16 March 1901', 201 x 133mm., platinum print by Sherer and Nabgol'ts (slight surface damage), the mount with photographers name in blind on recto, the reverse printed with date '1897' (slight stains, wear at edges) . The dedicatee was an opera-singer, who sang in the first performance of Tchaikovskii's 'Queen of Spades' in 1890. She died at the age of 83 in the Leningrad Home for Stage Veterans in 1942. Sold together with a double-sided gramophone recording of Tolstoi reading 'Für alle Tage', in German and Russian, Gramophone Concert Record G.C.-2-41114 (German) G.C.-21407 (Russian), with overprinted Russian legend, in Russian sleeve of Tsimmerman Record Company; together with 6 other photographs of Tolstoy, a collection of pre-revolutionary post-cards and two medals.
