Tony O'Malley HRHA (1913-2003) Porthmeor Beach From Piazza Studios Oil on paper, 56 x 89cm (22 x 35'') Signed and dated 1961 Literature: ''Tony O'Malley'' edited by Brian Lynch. Full page illustration P72. After many failed attempts O'Malley finally left Ireland for St. Ives in Cornwall after Easter 1960 and lodged with 'Boots Redgrave' in No. 1 Island Square. He rented a studio which he shared in Porthmeor. Exile from Ireland liberated O'Malley and he quickly became an accepted part of the Bohemian artistic community there. O' Malley threw himself into work so much so within a year he was hospitalised for a severe heart attack. He convalesced with new friends the artist Patrick Heron and his wife Delia and on his return to Island Square he rented this wonderful studio,'the Piazza' right on the beach at Porthmeor with its wonderful views of the sea and wind swept beach which was to inspire many works.
