TWINING FAMILY Album of 38 portraits, titled "ET. 1836" pencil and watercolour, in profile, some half-length, quarter-length, and head and shoulders, the sitters chiefly being members of the Twining family, captioned with initials or full names and dated, including Richard, E.M., Mary, Alfred, William, Jane, Samuel, James, Frederick, John, John Aldred, George, Isabella, Ellen, Margaret, and Ann Twining, the watercolours mounted onto the album with pencil captions on the image or the mount, some with additional somewhat later captions in ink, 1836-41 (the majority dated 1836), with blanks, 4to, half morocco on marbled boards These watercolours are almost certainly the work of the botanical artist Elizabeth Twining (1805-1889), of the large and wealthy family of tea merchants. She was second of nine children of Richard (1772-1857) and Elizabeth Mary Twining, who are the first two people portrayed in this album, whilst other sitters include her siblings and cousins. Most of the other sitters - Paternosters, Powells, Longcrofts, and others - had family connections to the Twining family.Condition reportCovers detached, worn at spine, two watercolours loose in the album, some tears where items previously removed The lot is sold in the condition it is in at the time of sale.
