Frank Dobie (letter of provenance accompanying the lot). Blackfoot Chief Two Guns White Calf is generally remembered as the model for the Buffalo Nickel, although in fact he was one of several Native Americans used to create the likeness. At the time of this photograph he worked for the Northern Pacific Railroad promoting tourism in Montana. This image, included in the Marans Collection, was taken by photographer T. J. Hileman (1882-1945) who maintained a studio in Kalispell. this copy with extremely interesting provenance as having come from the estate of famed western author J. Frank Dobie.
