TWO JADE CARVINGS OF RECUMBENT ANIMALS MING DYNASTY (1368-1644) The first is an elephant, its head resting on its forelegs and turned to one side towards the flicked tail. The underside bears a fourteen-character archaistic inscription. The pale grey stone has areas of dark brown and russet coloring. The second is a recumbent ram shown with legs tucked under the body and head facing forward, the body pierced vertically. The softly polished, yellowish-green stone has opaque areas of pale russet and buff-brown color. 3 and 1¾ in. (7.5 and 4.5 cm.) long
