TWO JAPANESE LACQUER BOXES AND COVERS EDO PERIOD, LATE 18TH/19TH CENTURY Both decorated using various gold lacquer techniques on a black ground; the fubako [letter box] with clematis and scattered mon [family crests] of paulownia and geometric design, two gilt-bronze cord ring attachments; the larger box with chrysanthemum mon and scrolling vine, the inside of the lid with red lacquer inscriptions Kojimachi , Soshin koju [religious association for the guardian deity of Kojimachi] followed by the names of 29 members, dated February, 1792 17 ¼ in. (43.8 cm.) and 26 ½ in. (67.3 cm.) long
