TWO MEISSEN FIGURES OF MAIDENS ALLEGORICAL OF SMELL AND HEARING from a set of the Senses, Smell wearing a yellow-lined flowered white robe and grey-lined green cloak, holding a pot-pourri vase and smelling a rose taken from an urn resting on a pedestal beside her, flanked by a putto kneeling at her feet smelling a rose taken from a small bush and by a hound sniffing a maggot; Hearing wearing a lilac-lined flowered white dress and a yellow-lined blue cloak, playing the lute and flanked by a stag and by a putto singing from an open score, another score and a French horn at her feet, each group on a footed square grassy base moulded with white and gilt scrolls and with the devices of a nose and an ear (Smell with chips to base, flowers and bush, handle of pot-pourri vase lacking, Hearing with restoration to arms, lute, one scroll foot and one antler, chips to base), blue crossed swords mark, one with cancellation, incised 1051 and 1062, circa 1860 10½in. and 11in.
