TWO SOAPSTONE FIGURES OF SEATED LUOHANS late 17th/early 18th century One figure carved wearing a loosely-draped robe and seated in lalitasana with a qilin playing at his feet on a rockwork base, his right hand raised above the knee holding a pearl and the other holding an alms bowl, the facial features and curly hair finely incised and highlighted, the stone of predominantly brown-red tone, the base cracked and restuck; the other carved seated in the same position wearing a cape, the hands clasping a ruyi and the head slightly turned to his right with a pensive expression, the stone of mottled milky and pale grey tone with reddish areas, ruyi recarved 3½ in.
