Jung"), in German, 1 p, 4to, Zurich, June 28, 1960, to Albert Theile, on personal letterhead, very light thumbing to leaf, otherwise fine, matted with English translation and portrait to 670 x 430 mm. Jung sends this letter to a magazine editor who has asked a question about his description of the "divine fool" in continental literature. In part, in translation: "The reason why in my essay about the 'divine fool' I didn't mention the Spanish equivalent of this figure, is simply my ignorance of Spanish literature. Unfortunately I do not speak Spanish. By the way, this figure is so widespread, that you'll find it in many other regions which I also didn't mention for the same reasons. I don't dare to offer interpretations in cases where I don't master the language ... Moreover, the idea of the 'divine fool' is so subtle that it got unfortunately confused through the inclusion of the 'roguish clown' perception. This happened in order to make room in the book for an essay, which—strictly speaking—had nothing to do with the figure of the 'divine fool.' I protested at the time, but was ignored. The 'fool' is something special and much deeper than the 'rogue.'"
