.58 caliber. 40" round barrel secured by three flat, spring-retained bands. SN: NSN. Bright finish, iron furniture, walnut stock. Single shot muzzleloading percussion military contract rifle musket. Lock marked in two lines: U.S./BRIDESBURG under the bolster with a {Spread-Winged Eagle} forward of the hammer and the date 1863 at the tail of the lock. Top of breech with matching 1863 date and left angled breech flat with usual V/P/{Eagle Head} proofs. Counterpane with weak and illegible script cartouche. Usual US mark on buttplate tang, and U marks on barrel bands. Retains the correct 1861 pattern rear sight, combination musket front sight and socket bayonet lug, both sling swivels and a full-length correct original swelled-shank tulip head ramrod with threads at the end. An Indian War era canteen sling is attached the gun for use as a musket sling. Condition: Good. Metal moderately oxidized with scattered light pitting over much of the surfaces and scattered oxidized discoloration giving the gun a "salt & pepper" appearance. Markings in metal are clear, cartouche weak. Mechanically functional, fair bore is dark, dirty and heavily oxidized with even light pitting and decent rifling. Stock with scattered bumps, dings, marks and mars, as well as some minor chipped loss around the lock mortise and the edges of the ramrod channel.
