Single-shot flintlock musket with leather wrapped flint in jaws of cock. Lock is marked {Spread Eagle}/US in front of cock and SPRING/FIELD/1832 behind. Breech plug tang dated 1832 with left breech marked P/{Eagle Head}/V proof marks. Counterpane displays two weak cartouches with stock showing proud fittings and rounded edges indicative of sanding. Cartouches resemble ET mark of Elisha Tobey and TW of Thomas Warner. SD mark forward of triggerguard for final acceptance mark. Serpentine, frizzen, frizzen screw, and cock stamped S with clearly visible U to middle barrel band. Item retains both sling swivels, brass barrel band, and comes with iron button head ramrod. Includes an incorrect US 1855 socket bayonet with 18" blade, 3" socket with .82" muzzle diameter, 21" overall length. Locking ring intact. Bayonet accompanied by an incorrect leather and metal Indian War era bayonet scabbard. Condition: Good. Bore is dark with patina throughout. Metal finish dominated by a dark brown patina with pitting atop barrel and to upper barrel band. Spots of oxidation to cock, rear lockplate, and to frizzen. Ramrod is frozen in place. Action still cocks and releases. Wood stock reconstructed through wrist with varnish filled crack running from rear breech on left side and lock on right. Wrist held fast by three pins through it just ahead of comb. Stock shows some mars and scratches overall that have been filled in by varnish, with another crack forward of lockplate. Bayonet shows patches of pitting at rear of blade and at joint with further light pitting to socket exterior. Bayonet has been polished at some point and shows patches of brown patina. Scabbard has a brown patina with some oxidation. Fastener is tarnished and leather loop has some cracks and crazing.
