The music was arranged by the Society of American Cantors. An exquisite copy dedicated to the cantor and composer Alois Kaiser, by the Central Conference of American Rabbis, "for his services in the preparation, publication and distribution of the Union Hymnal". Bound in a handsome gilt-tooled leather binding. The dedication on the front endpaper is also gilt. Alois Kaiser (1840-1908), was born in Hungary and studied in Vienna. From the age of 10 he sang in the choir of Cantor Salomon Sulzer. In the years 1863-1866 he was the cantor of the Maisel Synagogue in Prague. In 1866 he immigrated to the U.S., where he was appointed cantor of the Oheb Shalom community in Baltimore, Maryland. He served for some years as president of the Society of American Cantors.
