An unusual and functional teapot, fabricated from colorless rock crystal quartz mined in Minas Gerais, Brazil is carved in the form of a citron flower or “Buddhas hand”—a subject matter normally rendered in jadeite or nephrite in Chinese decorative arts. It is depicted here with a subtle stippled texturing and frosted leaf decoration and an integral handle all of which reveal the high clarity of the rock crystal quartz. The removable lid features some bright green chlorite inclusions as well as reddish phantom inclusions and is carved with the symbols of a bat and ruyi. Length 5 ½ in
