[USA - Stone House Press] BERTIN, Charles Christopher Columbus. Translated by William Jay Smith. Wood engravings by John De Pol. Roslyn, New York, The Stone House Press, 4to. Blindstamped greyish cloth, gilt title on upper cover, decorative endpapers. Edition limited to copies (n. on Rives signed by the translator, artist and printer/publisher William Jay Smith, John De Pol and A. Gelfand. A translation of Bertin's French three-act play "Christophe Colomb". The illustrations printed in black are from works in the John Carter Brown Library. The original wood engravings, printed in colour(s) other than black, are by John De Pol. The Stone House Press was established in by Morris A. Gelfand (1908-and begun in the basement of his house with a Chandler & Price platen press. The press focused on contemporary writers and poets "dedicated to good design and fine letterpress printing of literary texts by living authors" (Guide to the Stone House Press Archive).
