VASI, Giuseppe Agostino (1710-1782). Delle magnificenze di Roma antica e moderna . Rome: Chracas and others, 1747-1761. 10 parts in three volumes, oblong 2 o (302 x 408 mm). Half-title to part one, 2-page subscriber's list in part ten. Ten titles with etched vignettes, engraved dedication in part one, one etched headpiece in part five, 201 etched and engraved plates, etched initials, and illustrations by Vasi. (Some occasional spotting and light browning, p. 49 in part one trimmed and possibly supplied from another copy, p. 29 in part five with repaired tear slightly affecting text.) Contemporary vellum gilt, spines gilt (front covers slightly bowed, some minor soiling). Provenance : Paul Reilly Thompson (bookplate). FIRST EDITION of Vasi's masterpiece, with superb views of Rome, ancient and modern. It was reprinted in 1786 and again in 1803. Berlin Kat. 1880; Brunet V, 1098; Schudt 306. (3)
