(3 small holes in title, light worming to leaves Y8 - Dd5, with occasional slight loss to illustrations.) Later speckled sheep, spine gilt. FIRST EDITION OF THIS CLASSIC WORK. The first costume book to comment on contemporary manners and dress. It is divided into two books, the first contains 361 illustrations of European (including Russian and Balkan) and Turkish costume. There is an emphasis on Venetian costume and the illustrations include several views of Venice and Venetian life.
