VICTORIAN BELGIAN 'BRITISH BULL DOG' REVOLVER (OBSOLETE CALIBRE) 19th century AD A 5-shot, double-action solid frame revolver chambered for the obsolete .44 calibre bulldog cartridge; hinged loading gate to right with swing-out manual cartridge ejector rod housed through cylinder pin; the frame heavily engraved with foliage and inscribed 'BRITISH BULL DOG' in two lines to top strap with sighting groove; the cylinder with Liege proofmarks to faces, the 50mm barrel rifled with fixed foresight; the bird's-head butt fitted with chequered wood grip scales (retaining screw a replacement); the metal parts with some traces of original nickel plating. 482 grams, 15cm long overall (5 3/4"). Good condition; action in working order, slight surface pitting. Provenance Property of an Essex collector.
