VIKING BORRE STYLE SWORD SCABBARD CHAPE WITH FACE OF ODIN 10th century AD A bifacial bronze scabbard chape of Paulsen's Borre Style type B, D-shaped with triangular upper edge, knop to the base; to each face an openwork design of a human mask with large pellet eyes, triangular body beneath enmeshed in a dense pattern of three-line bands; the apex of each upper edge formed as a beast-head seen from above with C-shaped ears and pellet eyes; a bilinear border to the frame. 23 grams, 60mm (2 3/8").
