VITRUVIUS Pollio, Marcus. De Architectura libri decem . Edited by Guillaume Philander Lyons: Jean de Tournes 1552. 4° (241 x 156mm). Woodcut printer's device on title, numerous woodcut illustrations and initials, folding plate of funerary inscriptions, final leaf with woodcut device and preceding leaf of errata and privilege. (Some minor soiling and marginal waterstains on some leaves.) 18th-century calf, double gilt fillet around covers and in compartments on spine, lettering-piece (slightly rubbed, repair at foot of spine.) Provenance : 2nd Marquess of Bute (Luton Library bookplate). The first French printing of the work with illustrations by Bernard Salomon and the revised and expanded commentary and notes by Philander (1505-1563). Fowler 406; Berlin Kat. 1813; Cicognara 712.
