The rifle is named in celebration of the famed hunting area the 'Rominter Heath' in former East Prussia. Whilst it is recorded that royal hunting lodges were in existence in the area as far back as 1572 (and subsequently fell into disrepair), its most celebrated residence was the lodge built at the request of Kaiser Wilhelm II in the early 1890's. Popular history has it that having been refused permission to stay at the lodge by the (then) exiled Kaiser in 1933, Hermann Goering built one for himself nearby until he could force the acquisition of the Lodge following the Kaiser's death in 1941. After the end of the war, the area became part of the Soviet Union and the lodge was relocated to Kaliningrad central park to serve as an administrative centre. **
