This portrait was taken in 1912 in Vienna where Bruno Walter had an engagement at the Vienna Opera house. From 1913 - 1922 he conducted at the opera in Munich where Thomas Mann defended him against anti-Semitic attacks. In 1933 he emigrated to Switzerland and France and finally to the USA in 1939, where he worked as a conductor for the Los Angeles Philarmonic Orchestra. Among the circa 1500 musicians who emigrated from Europe, Walter was the most famous. – A few light scuff/soil marks, otherwise in very good condition.
