G/VG (3.0). Spine stress, tiny chips to spine ends, two very tiny chips to mid-spine (about 1mm each), nicks and fine creases to edges of front cover, nicks and a few shallow chips to bottom edge of back cover, toning to back cover edges, dampsoiling to top corner of back cover and all pages, staples quite pulled but cover still attached. Cream to light tan pages. Cover: Bernard Baily. Art: Eugene Hughes, Tony Mortellaro, Hy Fleishman. GPAnalysis: A 3.0 sold for $312 in October 2020. Weird Tales of the Future, Stanley Morse's sci-fi / horror hybrid, is valued by pre-Code buffs for its profusion of Bernard Baily covers and occasional Basil Wolverton art. There's no Wolverton in this ish, alas, but there's a nice alien captivity cover by Baily. The aliens wear pressurized helmets and the humans do not: only the hardiest will survive to board the slave ship. As the captives are whisked into space, the Earth explodes. Golden Age kids dreamed of rocketing from Krypton to Earth to become invincible Supermen, but in the pre-Code era, the dream became a nightmare. The rocket was coming to enslave you, no superhero was going to save the day, and instead of Krypton, our own planet had become a crypt. Consignments welcome for PBA's Fall 2022 Comic Book sale.
