WELLS, Herbert George (1866-1946). The War of the Worlds . Proof copy of a limited edition of the text of the radioplay adaptation directed by Orson Welles for the Columbia Broadcasting System in 1938, signed by Welles on the title page, and by Welles and Joseph Cotten on the second of two proofs of the last page (page 46), published on the 25th anniversary of the Invasion from Mars broadcast, privately printed by Colin Schilling (England) for Mercury Productions, 30 October 1963, 46 pages, 4to; and a photostatic copy of The 3rd Man Theme (The Harry Lime Theme) , signed by Orson Welles in red ink on the first page of music. In The War of the Worlds the role of Professor Pierson was played by Welles, and Joseph Cotten played the part of an announcer who dies by gas poisoning, also acting as associate producer. (3)
