Provenance: Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art Collection, New York. Wes Hempel was born in El Monte California to a Christian fundamentalist family. He attended Life Bible College for three and a half years before following a path of his own choosing, against the wishes of his family, and moved to Los Angeles. He re-entered school as a freshman at California State University at Northbridge where he earned a Bachelor of arts degree. He would continue on to receive a masters degree from Colorado University.
