WESTERN ASIATIC CYLINDER SEAL WITH STAG AND WINGED BULLS 13th-9th century BC A carved bitumen cylinder seal with frieze of beasts and decorative bands; accompanied by a museum-quality impression and typed and signed scholarly note issued by W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham 1970-1993, which states: "Cylinder Seal of Bitumen. 39 x 12 mm. The design consists of two decorative bands, with the main design between. The upper band consists of opening buds with connecting shoots beneath. The lower band consists of alternate rhombs and figures consisting of two triangular shapes joining at the middle. The scene in the centre of the area shows a recumbent stag with head turned backwards and each side a standing winged bull with one front paw raised. A rhomb above a star creates a terminal. Horizontal lines mark off the two bands. This is a seal from south-west Iran, c. 1300-900 B.C. It is fine work and in very good condition." 6.97 grams, 39mm (1 1/2"). Extremely fine condition.
