Gray cloth, spine lettered in gilt, black endpapers, top edge gilt. "New, Revised and Enlarged Edition." Contains: 1-page, 11-line autograph letter signed by the Massachussetts Senator, Charles Sumner (1811–1874), with his initials headed "Senate Chamber, 20th," reads: "Dear Andrew, no meeting in Committee to-day...Tomorrow I hope to leave for home, when we can speak together, ever yours, C.S." tipped-in on the front preliminary page (with 2 small tape repairs on verso); a clipped signature of William Lloyd Garrison (1805-1879) historic U.S. Abolitionist and reformer, along with a clipped address hand-written by Garrison to "Master J.R. Laws, 6 Winthrop Street, Boston," both mounted on the frontispiece verso; 1-page, 12-line autograph letter signed by Gerrit Smith (1797-1874), U.S. reformer, abolitionist, politician, and philanthropist, dated Jan. 29, 1854, tipped-in on p. 209; 3-page autograph letter signed by Wendell Phillips (1811-1884), U.S. abolitionist and orator, dated Nov. 10, 18[59?], tipped-in on p. 229; 1-page, 10-line autograph letter signed by Theodore Parker (1810-1860) reforming U.S. Unitarian church minister and Transcendentalist, dated Boston Feb. 19, 1857, tipped-in on p. 329.
