Here, the triangular shape of the Great Sugar Loaf occupies the centre of the composition. Typical of Sadler's work, the scene is adorned with minutely detailed foliage and figures. To the left, in front of a half-hidden tavern, a group of men tend to the hind hoof of a lame horse while soldiers on horseback converse, a trumpet hanging over one rider's back. Although the presence of the soldiers is noted, the scene is a peaceful one, with a baby resting in the arms of its mother on the nearby roadside.
