Broadbent, housed in embossed paper-covered case. In 1841-1842, Samuel Broadbent was listed as a daguerrian at 136 Nassau Street, New York City. In 1843-1844 he was listed as a daguerrian in Savannah, Ga., and was noted as traveling south in the winter, daguerreotyping, between 1843 and 1847. In 1845 he was noted as a daguerrian in both Macon and Athens, Ga. PLUS two oval 6th plate images on milk glass, one in velvet oval case and second in shadow box frame with label of Williams & Everett Boston, each with portraits of young ladies; PLUS 2 trimmed cdvs in brass kick stand frames; PLUS 40+ loose cdvs; PLUS 8 loose cabinet cards; PLUS a stack of Kodak 5" x 2.5" negatives, mostly of European trips; PLUS 20+ boudoir cards; AND a few loose images of various sizes and vintages. Archive also includes an engraved American silver dollar, smoothed and turned into a school medal, 4th place awarded to N. Langdon Williams Jr. 1840, and a cast octagonal coin silver medal from a benevolent society in Philadelphia, the 2 together weigh 36g; plus an engraved steel bookplate with the Williams family crest, marked Geo. B. Sharp 13 Baxter St. N.Y., 4" x 6". Paper items include three bound 12mo half leather ms volumes with book plate of Nathaniel L. Williams Boston 1803, being an account of travel through England, Ireland and Scotland with some quite interesting accounts of industrial unrest, comparison of the British and American justice systems, some interesting social commentary about the lack of morals of the nobility, mainly the men in keeping mistresses and gambling. While impressed with the history of art and architecture of Britain the writer was definitely an American republican at heart and deplores the perceived injustice of the British social, judicial and political system. Also includes accounts of travel through France and Holland, each volume is ca 200 completely filled lined pages and written in a legible hand.
