FIRST EDITON of Williams's second major play, a cornerstone of the modern American theatre and the winner of the first of Williams's two Pulizter Prizes. THE ONLY KNOWN PRESENTATION COPY TO A MEMBER OF THE ORIGINAL BROADWAY CAST, INSCRIBED BY WILLIAMS TO RUDY BOND on the front free endpaper: "To Rudy Tennessee, 1947." Ruggles inaugurated the role of Steve Hubbell in the original production. This copy was inscribed in the month of publication, also the month the play opened on Broadway. THIS COPY ADDITIONALLY SIGNED BY THE ENTIRE CAST, INCLUDING MARLON BRANDO, JESSICA TANDY, KARL MALDEN AND KIM HUNTER. A Streetcar Named Desire was presented at the Barrymore Theatre in New York on December 3, 1947, by Irene Selznick. It was directed by Elia Kazan--who also directed the memorable film version starring Marlon Brando and Vivien Leigh.
