Beschreibung:

WILLIAMS, Tennessee. The Rose Tattoo. New York: New Directions, 1950. 8 o. Original cloth; pictorial dust jacket (some wear to joints and edges of panels). FIRST EDITION. PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED BY WILLIAMS TO HIS CLOSE FRIEND PAUL BIGELOW: "To Paul ever lovingly -- ever gratefully, Tennessee." Referred to in one of William's letters as "a fantastic and rare character" (p.53), the well-educated Paul Bigelow once described himself as "a professional catalyst" within the American theater. William's brother recalls, "In the 1940s [Bigelow] was a deliberately mysterious uncle-figure (a young uncle, since he cannot have been much older than Tennessee) to the Atlanta group, though he was not, apparently, from Atlanta... No one was quite sure where he was from..."
