WINSTON S. CHURCHILL (1874-1965) & BERNARD HAILSTONE (1910-87) A full-length preliminary oil sketch on board, of Sir Winston Churchill as Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports in the dress of office standing beside a pillar with a port behind painted by Bernard Hailstone -- 19 x 13¾in; A head and shoulder portrait oil sketch of Churchill in the dress of office by the same artist -- 20 x 16in; the plaque that originally went below the official portrait stating 'Sir Winston Churchill ..Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports 1941-1965. Painted by Bernard Hailstone This portrait was presented to Sir Winston Churchilll by the Confederation of the Cinque Ports and was placed in this hall at his direction'; a photographic reproduction of the finished portrait; two photographs of the artist and Churchill discussing the painting; the Luncheon table plan and Church service from the presentation which took place at a meeting of the Courts of Brotherhood and Guestling of the Confederation of Cinque Ports, held at the White Rock Pavilion, Hastings, on September 7th 1955; and a quantity of other ephemera including Churchill's leather suitcase in which the uniform was carried to the artist's studio.
