World War II Posters Aimed at the General Public, Lot of 6, Plus

Lot of 6 posters, ranging in size from 14 x 20 in. to 28.5 x 40 in., with phrases and illustrations meant to scare and/or inspire the American public to contribute to the war effort. Lot includes: OWI Poster No. 24, featuring artwork by Anton Otto Fischer depicting a fiery depiction of a sinking ship and its crew surrounded by text reading, "A careless word... / ...A Needless Sinking." Washington, D. C.: U. S. Government Printing Office, 1942. OWI Poster No. 41, featuring artwork by Criss depicting an American home with a blue star flag flying in the window, with text above around reading, "Help Bring Them Back To You!" and tips to contribute to the war effort listed to the right, including, "Raise and share / food," "Conserve every- / thing you have," and "Save 10% in War / Bonds." Washington, D. C.: U. S. Government Printing Office, 1943. OWI Poster No. 57, featuring artwork by Al Parker depicting a lovely mother and daughter canning foods with surrounding text reading "'We'll have lots to eat this / winter, won't we Mother?'" and "Grow your own / Can your own." Poster featuring artwork by Irving Nurick depicting three school-aged children holding war-related toys and other items with text below reading, "We Are Ready, What About You? / Join the / Schools at War / Program." Washington, D. C.: U. S. Government Printing Office, 1942. Text at bottom identifies the War Savings Staff of the U. S. Treasury Department as the sponsor of the program. Lot also includes a modern reproduction of an anti-Vietnam War poster featuring artwork by Lynne depicting a separated American flag with a needle and thread in the process of mending it. Text above and below reads, "Give a Damn / Mend America." Originally produced in 1969. Condition: Posters in various conditions with varying degrees of discoloration, brittleness including ripping, tearing, and loss. OWI poster No. 41 fully separated along horizontal crease, with other rips/tears present. "Loose Talk" poster with large tear extending from top down about 2/3 of the way, with additional loss near bottom.
