WRIGHT, Orville (1871-1948). Document signed (“Orville Wright”), Washington, 25 December 1932. 1 page, 80 x 220 mm. Extremely fine. [ With :] Mabel BECK (1890-1959). Typed Letter Signed (“M. Beck”) to Earl Findley, enclosing Wright’s check Dayton, 28 December 1932. 1 page, 4to, fine. A good-humored Orville Wright sends a “check” to his longtime correspondent and defender Earl Findley for “all the mud he has slung at me” Wright alters a partly-printed check, crossing out the local bank name and replacing it with “(Left) Bank of the Potomac” and crossing out the Dayton dateline with “Washington, D.C.” ordering to “Earl N. Fridley [sic]” to “Pay back… $0000000” or, as spelled out: “All the mud he has slung at me ------” while adding along the left margin, “c/ Shoes Fan Belt Gardner Aldrin.” A superb example of Orville Wright’s sense of humor with a longtime friend and confidant. Mabel Beck’s letter of enclosure remarks that the check settles “in full his account with you.” Together, two pieces.
