A group of 38 gelatin silver print photographs, circa 1916-18, including 7 uncaptioned and pasted in to a contemporary oblong folio album, 11 loose, the remainder on green paper mounts including 3 two-part panoramas, the majority with negative numbers in the image, white china ink dates and captions to most paper mounts, some loose prints with contemporary manuscript dates and notes to versos, photograph sizes 15.5 x 20.5cm and very similar. An important collection showing the development of this airfield over its first two years. Manston began as a Royal Naval Station in 1916, with a base at Westgate Bay for seaplanes.
