Profusely illustrated. (8vo) 24.5x16.5 cm (9¾x6½"); first issue only 23 cm tall. Original gray or yellow wrappers, first year with printed label affixed, second year with printed wrappers, earlier issues sewn, final 10 issues stapled. A long consecutive run of this short-lived World War One expressionist journal, lacking only the 4 issues published in 1917. Includes literary contributions from Rainer Maria Rilke, Thomas Mann, Franz Werfel, Max Brod, Martin Buber, Hermann Hesse Annette Kolb, Georg Trakl, Hans Kyper, Franz Theodor Csokor, etc. The illustrations include works by Max Unold Erwin Scharff, Richard Seewald Alfred Kubin Paul Klee (lithograph: "Death for the Idea"), Lyonel Feininger Franz Seckendorf, Oskar Kokoschka Pablo Picasso and many more. Scarce. Lot Amendments Condition: Light wear and foxing; Issue Number 9 from 1915 is lacking a pair of conjugate leaves (Pages 125/126 & 131/132); very good. Item number: 282919
