Beschreibung:

Having dabbled unsuccessfully in racing car construction in the early 1960s, Argentine-born businessman Alejandro de Tomaso established himself as a serious automobile manufacturer with the introduction of the Mangusta coupé in 1967. One of the first supercars, the Mangusta (mongoose) used a re-engineered version of its Vallelunga predecessor's short-wheelbase backbone chassis and was powered by a mid-mounted 4.7-litre Ford V8 engine driving via a ZF five-speed transaxle. Ghia's Giorgetto Giugiaro contributed the striking gullwing coachwork (originally intended for Giotto Bizzarrini) and with around 300bhp on tap the aerodynamic Mangusta was good for a top speed of around 155mph. De Tomaso enjoyed close links with the Ford Motor Company at this time and the American firm helped put the Mangusta into larger scale production than would otherwise have been possible. Approximately 400 examples were made between 1967 and 1972. Sold new in Italy, this left-hand drive Mangusta is one of just 150 examples built for the European market. Preserved in highly original condition having covered just 44,565 kilometres from new, the car formed part of its first owner's private collection for many years before being acquired by the vendor in December 2002. The car is finished in orange with cream leather upholstery and black carpets, and is described as in generally good condition, with perfect original interior. It is offered complete with tool kit, jack and Italian libretto.
