.58 caliber, 40" barrel, no S/N. Lockplate marked "U.S. Springfield" with spread eagle and dated 1865. Three barrel bands, sling swivels, iron ramrod. Full-length wood stock. Condition: This conversion to the "trapdoor" breechblock mechanism rifle is in overall very good to near fine condition showing a light grey patina to metal surfaces. Fine bore, sharp markings, crisp action and very good wood. According to Flayderman's Guide to Antique American Firearms (9A-354)only 5,000 of these conversions were altered at the Springfield Armory in 1865 using Model 1861 percussion muskets.
