Beschreibung:

A 19th century Martin Brothers stoneware oil lamp base by Robert Wallace Martin of baluster form on a circular pedestal foot, with removable reservoir to the top, the body with a Renaissance style leaf decoration on a mottled brown ground, each section with incised marks and dated 12-1888, 36.5 cm high x 16 cm wide. Provenance: Part of a single owner collection originally acquired directly from the Martin Brothers Pottery, by Samuel L. M. Avery Esq., a master builder and resident of Southall. Avery was a friend and acquaintance of the Martin family, often visiting the pottery where he bought pieces directly from them for his own collection. The collection was inherited by his descendants and has remained in the family ever since, only being recently discovered following the passing of his daughter. CONDITION REPORT Some chips and losses to the upper rim of the oil reservoir, otherwise in good order. Some surface marks visible throughout. lamp fitments not present.
