Beschreibung:

A COLLECTION OF PAMPHLETS, approx. 353 works in total, in 58 bound volumes, the majority early 19th-century, but some also 18th-century, 4 vols. in 4° (including one vol. of 'Petitions') and the remaining vols. 8°, 50 vols. in uniform early 19th-century half calf by J. Taylor Seton, Edinburgh, numbered 2-3 and 5-52 on spines, the remaining vols. similarly bound, most with a separate number sequence. The pamphlets, which have remained in the same family library since being bound, reflect the varied interests of a county gentleman in the early 19th century, leaning towards the factual rather than the literary. A significant number were published in Scotland and have some bearing on Scottish affairs; topics range from how to build a fence to how to play chess, though agriculture and farming, commerce, trade, science, and contemporary politics emerge as the chief areas of interest.
