A RARE PAIR OF 28-BORE GERMAN OR AUSTRIAN FLINTLOCK TURN-OVER PISTOLS By Friedrich Ries, circa 1750 With swamped two-stage sighted barrels, one barrel on each pistol numbered respectively 'N. 1' and 'N. 2' at the rear, long tangs each chiselled with rococo designs in low relief on a punched ground, rounded back-action locks each signed within engraved strapwork and with a chiselled rococo spray on the cock and tail (one cock replaced), moulded figured walnut full stocks carved with rococo ornament, mainly in relief, and stamped with old armoury number '109' below each lock, cast and chased gilt-bronze mounts decorated with further rococo designs, mainly in relief against a punched ground, the trigger-guards incorporating the barrel release-catch, engraved gilt-bronze fore-end caps, and original wooden ramrods each with engraved gilt-bronze tip (one tip replaced), one ramrod with worm 15¾in.
