A three-case lacquer sleeve inro Meiji period (late 19th century), with signature Zeshin The outer sleeve decorated in polychrome takamaki-e with a pine branch and a votive plaque ( ema ) depicting Daruma after a painting by Sesshu in sumi-e togidashi , the reverse with a pine branch and two cracked bamboo vases ( hanaike ), the inner compartments decorated with a spatula and a pair of tongs, all against a reddish-brown lacquer ground; with wood bead ojime 2 5/8in.
