Beschreibung:

Serial no. 66018 for 1893, .22 Short. 28 inch No. 2 octagonal barrel. Blued finish. Set trigger. Tang-mounted Lyman peep sight. Varnished walnut stock and fore-end. Winchester hard rubber buttpad. Together with letter of provenance from the present owner, the great-granddaughter of John C. Riedel, Skilled Gun Tester for Winchester from 1886, he was first employed as a target tender in 1885, until his retirement in 1943. In that capacity it was estimated by the Winchester Company that he had fired some 17,000,000 rounds during that time and tested enough rifles to equip an army of 2,500,000 men. As the man who test fired all rifles manufactured by Winchester it can be safely presumed that he would have chosen an excellent example for his own use. Also included is a photocopy of the column Strange As It Seems by John Hix, published in 1941 and featuring Mr. Riedel. Condition: Excellent. Barrel with 98% plus dark blue finish showing a few small areas of spotting and a series of small marks behind the fore-sight. Excellent bore. Action retains 60-70% blue with the balance flaked to brown. Excellent wood showing a few small marks. See Illustration
