Uniform contemporary straight-grained crimson morocco tooled in gilt and blind, the covers with panels of scrolling vine leaves and stylised floral borders, Botfield arms added at centre, flat spine gilt in compartments, lettered in two, the others elaborately decorated with foliate tools, gilt edges, flyleaves watermarked 1823 (spines slightly faded, corners lightly rubbed, some minor unobtrusive scuffing, some endpapers creased). Provenance : Beriah Botfield (armorial bookplate); manuscript receipt with contemporary watermark, for the purchase of 10 Ackermann volumes, (including 2 Westminster volumes not present) loosely inserted inside last volume. A HANDSOMELY-BOUND SET OF ACKERMANN'S PRINCIPAL WORKS, the finest exponent of coloured aquatint illustration. This set was probably acquired and bound in 1823, with some of the plates in later states. (8)
